International Women’s Day 2023 – Empowering Women to Join the Construction Industry

With International Women’s Day coming up on the 8th March, All Done Design would like to show its support and use this opportunity to showcase the importance of increasing equality and diversity within the construction trade to enable women to feel welcomed and in-turn, thrive in the industry.

International Women’s Day is a celebration of females across the world, bringing attention to equality and the female rights movement. As a woman in the construction industry, All Done Design’s Managing Director, Charlie Avara, has experienced the lack of diversity within the trade and feels empowered to encourage other females to not be afraid of pursuing a career within a male dominated industry.

According to House Grail “only 13% of construction firms are owned by women and only 16% of senior positions are held by women”. Furthermore, women only make up 1% of skilled tradespeople within the UK.

Women can help to drive change in the construction industry and open up new ideas and perspectives, therefore it is important that trade roles are welcoming more female employees. Charlie is a strong advocate for women in construction and believes that construction roles should be advertised and open equally to all genders. Her passion for diversity in the trade has been recognised by numerous award hosts within the country, resulting in her winning the Silver award for Business Woman of the Year in January, a well-deserved recognition for her dedication and commitment to both diversity and All Done Design.

Not only this, Charlie also attended the London Build ‘Diversity in Construction’ event in November 2022, as a ‘Women in Construction Ambassador’ whereby she was able to speak, give advice and support like minded individuals within the construction industry, and vocalise her passion for gender equality in the trade.

All Done Design is working towards a more gender diverse team and Charlie continues to show her support and encouragement to females in the construction industry. We are excited to see what is next for Charlie in her journey.
