When designing your home and adding the all-important finishing touches, hallways can often be neglected, seen as a walk-through area where little time is spent. However, hallways can make a great difference to your home when given detail and character, creating the wow factor when someone walks through your door and playing a huge part in making your home more welcoming. Keep reading to find out the ways in which you can create a stylish hallway that oozes character and fits with your home design.
Eye-Catching Flooring
A hallway floor can often pick up a lot of dirt and marks from being regularly walked through (often with shoes on) so it is best to avoid carpet when choosing a flooring style and choose a more hard-wearing option. You could opt for patterned flooring to add dimension to the room, or perhaps lift the room up by adding a colourful rug to simple flooring.
We are big fans of this marble tile flooring we added to one of our client’s hallways to create a classy and modern look. The monochrome contrast with the white walls makes a stunning and elegant entrance that is sure to be memorable.
Pop of Colour
Why not add a pop of colour to brighten up the hallway? Be bold and daring with your colour choices to create a striking effect. In the below image, a bright yellow chair was added to bring this space to life and contrast with the neutrally painted walls. By adding the chair, a small wellness area was created for our clients to relax in, optimising the hallway space.
Another way to add a pop of colour would be to create a feature wall, either using wallpaper or painting one wall a bold colour to really contrast with the rest of the other walls. This gives the space a decorative focal point, transforming the room with minimal effort or disruption.
Make a Statement with a Staircase
Something we love to do here at All Done Design is create a statement staircase at the heart of our client’s homes. We have some useful tips on how to upgrade your staircase, to bring your hallway to life.
High quality stair runners can be a true investment for your hallway, with lower risk of wear and tear, and some fantastic styles and colours to choose from. If you have quite a neutral hallway, add dimension with a patterned stair runner, or maybe opt for a standout colour that really draws attention, in the best way.
Another option is to brighten the staircase with a fresh lick of paint to give an effortlessly clean finish. In this stunning project we completed for our client pictured below, we created this elegant and minimalistic staircase where the contrast of the bright white paint and neutral stair runner creates a classy and luxurious feel to the room.
All in the Details
Lastly, add details to your hallway to build character and add your own personal touch to give the room a more homely and welcoming feel. By adding your favourite artwork and frames you can transform an empty wall with colour and warmth, or maybe black and white images to add a simplistic monochrome look like below.
Don’t be alarmed, adding details doesn’t mean you have to add loads of different decor, ornaments, and photos to a room. If this isn’t your style, you can still make an impact with a minimalist hallway with just a couple of added statements, or even just by adding a vase with a houseplant in to warm up the space like below.
